Retaining Walls, Paver Patios & More!
Since our last blog post, Malco Landscape has been working on various projects such as; retaining walls, paver patios, and a few more tower base installations for the Pennsylvania State Police. Beginning with the tower bases, we worked at locations in Western, Pa. Some of these locations included Meadville, Waynesburg, Ebensburg, and Bedford. In total, there were six locations, so we decided it was best to split each of our trips into two, and complete three tower bases in each trip. Once again, we constructed the cages before arriving on the job site. Once the area was dug with a mini-ex, we poured the foundations using 5,000 lb. concrete mix. One of the more challenging aspects of this work was coordinating hotels, concrete suppliers, and dumpster roll-offs since we were unfamiliar with the area. Also, many of these locations were 30-40 miles apart from each other. Another project that we worked on was a very large retaining wall. This project was challenging in many ways, mainly due to the weather we were trying to work in. We dealt with rain, snow, sleet, and cold. Most of the work consisted of laying cornerstone block for our retaining wall. The driveway of the homeowners was very steep, which created another challenge in this project. On the one side of the driveway, we were able to install curbing, and on the other side, we installed decorative concrete blocks to give the area enough support. This job also included top soiling and seeding disturbed areas. As you can see in some of the pictures, it was quite the job! Lastly, we installed a 350 sq. ft paver patio, with a sitting wall and firepit at Union Station, off Union Deposit Road. We used Parisien Techo-bloc pavers. As a solider course, we used the chocolate brown color, and the rest of the pavers were chestnut brown. The sitting wall blocks that were used was mini-creta in the chestnut brown color, as well as the Valencia fire pit and pillar blocks. We used a chocolate brown cap for the pillar, which gave the patio a sharp look. Check it out below!
